What is SSH Tunnel ?

SSH tunneling, also known as SSH port forwarding, is a method of establishing a secure connection between a local computer and a remote server, enabling network traffic to be forwarded. It allows users to connect to a server via an encrypted connection and securely forward traffic between their local machine and the remote server using an SSH (Secure Shell) connection. Additionally, it provides a secure means of establishing a connection between two computers over an insecure network, such as the internet.

SSH tunneling is frequently employed to gain secure access to services that are not directly available on the internet, such as a database server or networked application. It may also be used to evade network limitations or to safely access services on a network that would otherwise be insecure.

Through SSH tunneling, one can redirect traffic from a local port on their computer to a port on a remote server. This functionality can be valuable for accessing services solely available on the remote server, or for circumventing restrictions or firewalls that block specific types of traffic.

SSH Supported Protocol:

  • OpenSSH over SSL/TLS Connection
  • Dropbear over SSL/TLS Connection
  • SSH Websocket
  • SSH CDN Cloudflare
  • SSH CDN Cloudfront
  • SSH over DNS (SlowDNS or DNSTT)

NETQ.ME offers both Free and Premium Accounts for SSH. The Free SSH accounts have a limited active period of 7 days, but users can extend this period before it expires. On the other hand, Premium SSH accounts have a reduced balance every hour, requiring members to top up their account and ensure the balance is sufficient. All SSH tunnel accounts come with unlimited bandwidth of up to 1Gbps.

To use SSH tunneling, you must have an SSH client installed on your local computer and access to an SSH server. Once you have these, you can use the SSH client to establish a secure connection to the SSH server and configure the tunneling settings according to your needs.

List of SSH Client Apps:

  • Putty
  • Bitvise SSH Client
  • HTTP Net Header (Official Software) for Windows
  • [G] Tunnel (Official Software) for Windows
  • Netmod for Android / Windows
  • HTTP Injector for Android
  • HTTP Custom for Android
  • KPN Tunnel Rev for Android
  • etc

SSH tunneling offers various ways to securely access remote networks, servers, and services based on your specific requirements. For instance, you may use SSH tunneling to bypass a firewall or other security measures and gain access to a remote network. Alternatively, you may use SSH tunneling to securely access a local network resource such as a file server or printer from a remote location. SSH tunneling is a highly effective tool for accessing remote servers and services securely, and it is commonly used in situations where a secure connection is required but not available directly.
